About The Event

A special dance program was organized by India's famous organization Spic Macay in Chaitanya Science & Arts College Pamgarh October 3 2019. The popular folk dance drama, ‘Chhau’ was performed by 20 artists from Bengal. Dance drama based on ‘Mahishasur Mardini’ was performed by them. This folk dance is performed in the festival of Navratri this dance drama was based on ‘Mahishasur Mardini’, In which 35 artists from Purulia district of West Bengal presented beautiful dance with masks and special costumes, in which Lord Shiva, Ganesha, Kartikeya, Durga Maa, Mahishasura, decorated the lion's mask, the wonderful art was performed for 1 hour. The students and dignitaries present in the college auditorium were fascinated. This type of event was held for the first time in the district. Most people were unaware of Chhau dance and they got an opportunity to know the culture and art of Bengal.Mr. Mr. Veerendra Tiwari, the director of the college honored all the artists and accompanists by presenting them bouquets and mementos. He said that arts like dance drama are an integral part of Indian culture. 
Dr. Vivek Joglekar said that classical arts narrate the rich tradition of India, specially folk arts. Smt. Shubhada Joglekar also gave best wishes to the artists. Tamal Kanti Rajak, the convener of Chhau Nritya Academy, praised the arrangement of Chaitanya College and the enthusiasm of the students. He also discussed 'Chhau' as a type of dance drama which is seen in its traditional form in the neighboring states of West Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. In these states this dance is performed on the occasion of annual sun worship. In some areas of Purulia and Midnapore districts of West Bengal, this dance contains the entire story of the Ramayana, while in other places it is based on different incidents described in Ramayana and Mahabharata and Puranas. Abhishek Pandey conducted the stage. All the college staffs and more than 200 students were present in the program.
