Botany delves into the intricate world of plants, studying their biology, ecology, and importance in sustaining life on Earth.
The Department of Botany, established in our college in 2017-18, had its first batch pass out in 2019. It stands as an important department in the college, offering Plant Pathology as an elective subject.
Our Department is committed to achieving excellence in dissemination and creation of knowledge to address modern-day challenges in plant and molecular biology.
Our Department will continue to foster development of independent learning and thinking capacities of students and their employability skills that enrich their professions and communities. Our research mission of the undergraduate and graduate programs is to generate new knowledge and thereby intellectual growth related to addressing problems in the areas of plant and molecular biology.
Our College Botany lab is well-equipped for undergraduate and postgraduate students to perform various botany practicals. The laboratory is spacious, well-ventilated, and equipped with necessary instruments such as Dissecting microscopes, compound microscopes, colorimeter, centrifuge Machine, autoclave, respirometer, botanical charts and specimens. It also contains preserved plant specimens for studying botanical names and identifying particular plants in the field.
The botanical garden, under direct care, is adorned with various specimens essential for the study of Botany. It contains major plants like Calophyllum inophyllum, Kleinhovia hospita, Tectona grandis, Polyalthia longifolia, Cycas circinalis, and Azadirachta indica.
M.Sc in Botany offers excellent career opportunities in both private and public sectors in India and abroad. Graduates can pursue careers as Ecologists, Project Managers, Environmental or Safety Specialists, Scientific Researchers, Quality Control Officers, Lab Technicians, and Medical Representatives.
Botany degree holders can work in various roles such as plant explorer, conservationist, ecologist, environmental consultant, horticulturist, plant biochemist, nursery manager, geneticist, taxonomist, plant pathologist, and farming.
