About Department

Our department was established in 2001 as an integral part of the college. Initially, the subject was offered only at the undergraduate level. Keeping in mind the enrollment of students and the importance of the subject, the college offered the subject at the P.G level in 2013-14. Since then, our department has been making progress at both U.G and P.G levels continuously.

Mission
  • To provide quality teaching, learning, research, and consultancy in humanities and social sciences by creating, preserving, transmitting, and utilizing knowledge.
  • The mission of the Department of Sociology is to promote scientific understandings of social life through teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • By providing rigorous training in disciplinary methods and theories, coupled with a diversity of substantive concentrations and educational experiences, we develop robust sociological imaginations and critical thinking in our students.
  • Through a variety of service activities at the local, regional, and national levels, we model for our students and others the importance of responsible community engagement.

  1. Key concepts: Students will be well-versed in the discipline's key concepts for analyzing the social world.
  2. Research Methods: Students will be proficient in qualitative and quantitative sociological research methods.
  3. Communication: Students will be proficient in discipline-based communication.
  4. The Main Aim of the Undergraduate Program is to train scientists with critical sociological knowledge, with qualifications that make them competitive in the domestic and international academic and working environment.
  5. Graduates of the Department of Sociology may be employed as teachers in Secondary Education, Local Government Organizations, the wider public and private sectors, among others.

Our department aims to develop thinkers, leaders, and innovators whose subsequent efforts will benefit the human social world and life on the planet. Our research ranges from broad, global sweeps of social change to micro-level social interaction, using an array of theories and methods. We generate new knowledge through our scholarship.
