About Department

The Department of  Social Work was established in 2012-13. Initially postgraduate programme in MSW was started. MSW course or Master of Social Work is a post-graduation course majoring in the field of social work. MSW course is imparted with a two-year duration, which is typically divided into four semesters. Aspirants can pursue MSW courses after completing a Bachelor degree in the relevant field. A career in social work is all about giving and helping others in need. From various NGOs (non-government organizations) across the nation to social development, a Master of Social Work (MSW) course provides comprehensive knowledge about the work put into the development of humanity and social welfare.  The Department of Social Work is actively involved in providing evidence-based, quality oriented social work education through most advanced and emerging domains of practice, research and field interventions. It has also engaged itself in strengthening social work practice, research and field projects.

Social Work engages in teaching, research, community initiatives and other scholarly activity to promote social justice. To this end, we educate students and collaborate with others to advance change within the social work profession, social institutions, and the broader society.

 Job Profile For MSW 

After completing MSW course, aspirants can either pursue higher studies in the field of social work or can also opt for a job in the field of social work. Some popular job profiles that candidates can join after successfully completing their MSW course are listed below: 

Social Worker: A social worker provides appropriate resources, advice and support to individuals who are facing difficulties or problems in their personal/professional life. In other words, a social worker helps individuals cope with their monetary, emotional or social needs. 

Project Coordinator: A Project Coordinator help in planning, budgeting and monitoring process of a project undertaken by an NGO. Apart from this, a Project Coordinator also needs to ensure that the project undertaken is being conducted within the framework established and all documentation work is complete. A project coordinator also gets in touch with volunteers and ensures that the project is being completed as per timelines fixed for it. 

Professor/Assistant Professor: Candidates can also become educationists in the field of social work.
